let's go forward, seattle3/14/2021 We're building something powerful, and we want you to join us. Forward Seattle is a mock company created for educational purposes at Washington State University. There are a few existing leadership programs that focus on public service, but not explicitly about building a pipeline to place progressive leaders (and therefore, their ideas) into positions of power within the powerful for-profit structure. Seattle is home to a very politically active culture that is predominantly progressive. Seattle is also home to some of the country’s (and the world’s) most powerful companies: Amazon, Starbucks, Microsoft, etc. Even the smallest shift in a company’s standard operating procedure or public support can have ripple effects on industries and societies across the world. There is a lot of untapped potential in using the capitalistic system to the advantage of progressive goals if advocates organize effectively. Our training program would help propel young Seattleites to engage with their employers in a new way that improves the lives of fellow employees and larger systems. There is a hunger for advocacy opportunities among young people. However, at the same time, there is a fatigue with the gridlock and glacial pace of progress within traditional institutions of change (like the U.S. Congress). Because Seattle has such a population of young people and powerful corporations, it only seems natural to marry it with a training program geared for this environment. Comments are closed.
